Cuneo  and  its  Province

The  word  "cuneo"  means  "wedge"  and  the  town  is  really  wedge-shaped  because  of  its   position  on  the  confluence  of  two  rivers .     Cuneo  is  the  main   town  of  the  widest  province  of   Piemonte  and  it's  very  important  also  because...we  are  living  not  so  far  away  from  there (12 miles)!!      The   town   dates  back   to  early  1200  and  has  now  about  60.000  inhabitants .

Cuneo  is  an  elegant  and  calm  town   with  a  chess-board  map  like  Torino  and  like  Torino  it  has  wonderful   wide  avenues  and  many  green  areas . There  are  beautiful  ancient  Churches , palaces , elegant  shops  and  excellent  confectioneries . The  main  square  is  Piazza  Galimberti  one  of  the  widest  in  Italy . Cuneo  has  always  been  a  busy  town  and   its  weekly  cattle  market  is  one  of  the  most  important  in  Italy .

The  East  side  of  the  province  is  one  of  the  most  famous in  Italy  for  its  agrarian  resources . This  very  fertile  territory  includes  the  rich  vineyards area  named  "Langhe" .     Vineyards  stretch  away  on   sweet  green   hills  rich  of  castles  and  farmer-houses . Under  these  ones  there  are  many  typical  old  wine-cellars . We  wrote  about  wines  in  the  Gastronomy  page .

Alba , the  "hundred  towers  town" , is  the  main   town   of   the "Langhe" and  is  the  world  capital  of...truffles! (On  the  left  side  you  can  see  the  typical   truffles  searchers  with  their  dogs  and  on  the  right  the  result  of  their  search !).

Don't  forget  also  that  in   Alba  there  is  the  "Ferrero"  factory  which  produces  Nutella , Rocher  and  Kinder-eggs !
