West  of  Aosta  starts  the  way  to  Courmayeur  one  of  the  nicest  towns  of  the  Valley , famous  Winter  Resort  at  the  foot  of  the  Monte Bianco , the  highest  mountain  in Europe . The  Alps  have  always  been  an  important  training  for  mountain  lovers !

The  Alpine  Guides  of  the  Aosta  Valley  are  famous  all  over  the  world . They  are  professional  people  famous  for  their  reliability  and  their  profound  knowledge  of  the  mountain . They  organized  expeditions  in  Himalaya , in   Alaska , in  Karakorum , in  the  Andes , at  the  Arctic  and  Antarctic  Circle . On  the  left  you  can  see  a  suggestive  historic  photo  of  the  Courmayeur  Guides!

Not  very  far  from  the  Bard  Fortress  lies  Pont-Saint-Martin  the  town  from  which  is  starting  the  way  to  the  Lys  Valley .      Gressoney-St-Jean  is  the  most  important  small  town  of  this  valley .     The  Queen  Margherita  of  Savoia  spent  here  her  holidays , in  the  little  castle  you  can  see  on  the  right .

The  Lys  Valley  leads  to  the  Monte  Rosa  Massif  the  second  mountain  of  the  Alps (15,200 feet).          The  language  of  the  Aosta  Valley  is  a  French  dialect  but  people  of  the  Lys  Valley ( Walser ) are  of  German  descent .

Another  important  valley  is  the  Valtournenche  Valley  which  leads  to  the  Cervino , the  most  beatiful  mountain  of  the  Alps (14,700 feet).

The  Aosta  Valley  is  famous  for  its  Wine  production . St.  Martin  is  the  Saint  Protector  of....drinkers !!     Don't  forget  the  Fontina  Cheese , the  most  important  cheese  of  the  Valley . On  the  left  you  can  see  the  true  one  with  the  Cervino  mark .

The  wood-carvers  of  the  Valley  make  two  typical  objects , the  Grolla  and  the  Friendship  Cup .      The  Grolla  (on  the  right)  is  a  sort  of  chalice , the  name  coming  from  Graal . The  Golden  Grolla  is  an  important  Italian   Cinema  Award .            The  Friendship  Cup  (on  the  left) is  a  special  container  with  six  or  eight  spouts . It's  filled  with  the  hot  typical  Aosta  Valley  coffee .

This  is  a  personal  coffee  recipe  and  the  main  ingredients  are  coffee  and...."Grappa". Some  people  add  orange  peel , spices , sliced  fruits  etc.. The  Cup  passes  along  like  a  Peace  Calumet .           Obviously  the  Aosta  Valley  is  famous  for  its  wonderful  Winter  Resorts , a  paradise  for  skiers !!
