We  can't  leave  out  the  wonderful  Costigliole  castle !      The  sweet  Monferrato  hills  are  the  extension  of  the  Langhe  hills . Also  this  area  is  famed  for  its  wine : Barbera , Dolcetto , Grignolino , Freisa , Moscato  and  Malvasia .

All  the  Piedmontese  provincial  towns  as  the  small  villages  have  a  peculiar  and  complicated  history  as  usually  everywhere  in  Italy .    Their  history  started  from  the  Roman  period  through  the  Middle  Ages  till  nowadays .     It's  quite  impossible  to  be  exhaustive  dealing  with  such  a  wide  subject !   Each  small  village  contains  many  art  treasures .

On  the  left , for  example , you  can  see , in  Albugnano , the  old  Saint  Peter  Church (XI - XII century) in  romanesque  style  and  on  the  right  a  view  of  Agliano  (Aulianum). Albugnano  has  only  400  inhabitants  and  Agliano  1700 .     Two  very  small  villages  indeed !

The  legend  says  that  the  Vezzolano  Abbey  was  built  on  773  A.D.  by  Charlemagne , king  of  France .   It's  a  romanesque - gothic  jewel  nestling  amid  hills .   On  the  right  the  wonderful  Cloister  of  the  Abbey .

Do  you  remember  we  told  you  about  shells ? All  around  the  Vezzolano  Abbey  can  be  found  not  only  shells  but  many  kind  of  fossils : fishes  and  leaves .

Asti , like  Siena , has  its  own   Palio , that  is  the  most  important  traditional  event  of  the  town .      It  dates  back  to  1275  and  it  happens  on  the  third  Sunday  of  September . It's  an  event  that  involves  all  the  Asti  people .      You  can  see  some  photos  below : the  historical  procession , a  Lady  with   her  Escort , the  Ladies , the  Captain  and  the   Knights .
