Bocce

The  bocce  game  is  very  popular  in  Italy  and  specially  in  Piemonte ; its  appeal  is  still  largely  local  and  recreational  ; every  village  has  a  level  open  space  where  people  could  play  in  summer  evenings .    The  first  Italian  League  was  formed  in  1947  near  Torino . 1947  also  marks  the  beginning  of  the  yearly  Bocce  World  Championships .     International  play  is  limited  to  Italy  and  France ; the  results  have  long  been  dominated  by  Italy .    Thanks  to  Italian  emigrants , bocce  has  come  to  flourish  in   many  parts  of  the  world .

Pallone  elastico  (elastic  ball)

This  sport  was  born  at  the  beginning  of  16th  century  in  Northern  Italy  in  the  Courts  of  the  noble  families  and  it  caught  on  at  once  in  every  social  classes .    Between  19th  and  20th  centuries  the  game  went  through  a  crisis  that  caused  its  almost  total  disappearance  except  for  some  areas  in  Piemonte  (Torino , Asti , Cuneo)  and  Liguria , but  it's  still  surviving  in  the  New  World , in  Belgium  and  in  some  areas  of  Southern  France .

Torino's  soccer  teams .

Soccer  is  the  most  popular  game  in  Italy  (not  only  in  Italy !) . Torino  boasts  of  two  very  old  and  popular  Soccer  Clubs  that  date    back  to  the  end  of 19th  century , the  Juventus F.C.  and  the  Torino  Calcio . The  Juventus  symbol  is  a  zebra  and  the  Torino  symbol  is  a  bull .

The  Torino  was  the  strongest  soccer  team  in  Italy  for  many  years  until  1949  when  a  tragic  air  accident  happened  just  on  the  Superga  hill  (Torino)  and  broke  off  their  career .    The  Juventus  is  now  one  of  the  strongest  teams  in  the  world . Golf

In  Piemonte  there  are  thirty - eight  golf  courses  and  four  of  them  have  been  recommended  as  the  best  fairways  in  Italy . As  usual  Piedmontese  people  are  pretty  reluctant  to  let  it  know  around ! For  that  reason  our  faiways  are  less  crowded  than   others  in  Europe .

On  the  left : "Le  betulle" (The  birch-trees), in  the  Biella  Province , has  been  compared  with  the  famous  "Piney  Valley" , number  one  in  the  States .    On  the  right : the "Sestriere  Golf  Club"  is  the  highest  fairway  in  Europe (6676  feet) .    You  can  also  find  wonderful  fairways  near  the  Lago  Maggiore , on  the  Langhe  hills , near  Torino  etc..

It  was  born  in  seventies  thanks  also  to  the  enthusiasm  of  our  dear  friend  Gustavo  Gallo  Orsi , prematurely  deceased .     Today  John  Aimo  is  the  first  flight  instructor  of  this  school  and  he  got  also  the  english  licence .     Many  people  come  to  Mondovì   from  everywhere  in  Europe  to  learn  to  ride  with  this  suggestive  and  romantic  way  of  flying .

Our  Region  offers  to  sportsmen  that  are  fond  of  the  nature  many  facilities  to  practice  several  interesting  activities . Uncontaminated  sceneries  for  a  walk  on  the  ski , craggy  peaks  to  descend  by  parachute  or  for  a  hard  climbing , paths  for  the  mountain  bike , rock  training  for  the  free  climbing  lovers , clear  and  whirling  streams  for  canoeists .
