Pier  Giorgio  Frassati

The  vocation  of  Torino  as  a  "Town  of  Saints"  continues  also  in  the  twentieth  century , with  the  birth  in  1901  of  a  young  man  belonging  to  the  upper  classes , Pier  Giorgio  Frassati . His  short  life (he  died  in  1925)  has  been  a  bright  model  of  Christian  Charity . His  motto  was  "live , don't  rub along". He  is  an  example  for  young  people  of  the  third  millenium .

Renato  Chiera  was  born  in  Villanova  Mondovì  in  1942 , in  a  family  of  farmers . He  was  a  very  lively  child  and  had  his  Divine  Calling  after  the  elementary  school .    He  attended  Seminary  and  in  1967  he  became  priest . He  was  Parish  Priest  in  some  Parish  Churches , creating  many  problems  because  of  his  rebel  character . In  this  period  he  got  the  Degree  of  doctor  in  Philosophy  at  the  Catholic  University  of  Milan .

He  was  used  to  go  to  Rome  from  time  to  time  to  visit  a  Community  of  Missionaries  learning  portuguese  at  the  same  time .    He  obtained  the  permission  to  go  to  Brezil . He  found  a  hard  reality  there  and  decided  to  side  weaking  people , above  all  poor  children .

He  ran  into  big  problems , he  risked  his  life  several  times , fighting  against  the  world  of  organized  crime .    He  founded  the  "Casa  do  Menor" (Children  House) among  a  lot  of  troubles . Today  the  "Casa  do  Menor" has  1200  people , the  people  in  charge  and  children , 22  Comunities , 3 Nursery  Schools , 16  workshops , 8  Family  Houses , 2  Reception  Houses , farms , etc. .    He  is  also  in  contact  with  the  local  University .
