A  typical  rack  railway  climbs  the  hill  of  Superga  where  we can  see  the  Basilica  which  his a  must  for  tourists . The  view is  exceptional   especially  at  sunset  when  the  snow-capped  chain  of  the  Alps  is   shining  around  the  shadowed  town . This  Basilica  has  been  built  in  the  early 1700. Its  crypt  includes a  Mausoleum  with  the  tombs  of  the    Savoia  Royal  family.

Not so far  from  Torino  lies  the  Hunting     Palace  of  Stupinigi , a  majestic  baroque   structure   that  has  been  built  at  the  beginning  of   1700 .        In  its  big  central  hall   had  been   shot  the    famous  scene  of  the  ball  in  the  movie  "War and    peace"  with  Audrey Hepburn , Mel  Ferrer and   Henry Fonda . Do you  remember it ?

The  Palace  is  today  an  exhibition  center . On  the  right  side  you  can  see  an  air  view  of  the  structure  and  on  the  left  you  can  admire  a  night  view  of  the  central  hall .

Just  North  of  Torino  we  can  see  the  Venaria  Palace , just  restored . This  Castle  dates  back  to  the  end  of 1600. On  the  right  side  you  can  see  the  wonderful  Diana's  Gallery .

About  20  miles  West  of  Torino  on  a  big  rock  situated  at  the    beginning  of  the  Susa  Valley  lies the  imposing  Abbey  of  San Michele   Arcangelo  usually  called  "Sacra  di  San  Michele" .  It  dates  back  to  X   century  and  it  had  been  a  fortified  Monastery  with  a  great  economical   and  cultural  influence . The  Susa  Valley  was  named  "Gate  of  Italy"   because  through  here  was  passing  the  "Via  Francigena" , the way  of   pilgrims  walking  towards  Roma .

The  Snow  Olympic  Games  of  2006  will  take  place  on  the  wonderful  mountains  surrounding  Torino .  It  will  be  a  very  important  occasion   to  visit  our  region !     More  info  about  Torino  2006
